I bought this trike for my son for Christmas just after he turned 2. We have now had it for five months.
Pros: This trike is easy to find, requires no assembly, comes with exciting streamers and a storage container that has provided my son with hours of fun loading and unloading. The seat is adjustable (2 positions), the body of the trike is metal, and the handles are a cushy rubber. The seat has a hole in the back so adults can easily lift the trike one-handed.
Cons: This tricycle is rated for ages 1.5 to 3. My 16 month old (who is the size of an average 2-year-old, according to the MedCalc growth charts) can barely straddle the bike, and her feet can’t hardly follow the pedals for a full circuit when turning. My 2.5 year old is now getting quite large for the bike, so I can definitely see why it’s not for kids over 3. My biggest concern, however, is that the trike frequently tips. If my son tries to turn too tightly or if one of the back wheels hits a small stone or a crack in the sidewalk, the trike tips over. This has happened at least every-other time we use the trike; I believe that the back wheels are set too close for stability given the height of the seat. Fortunately, my son has always caught himself and has not sustained any injuries. My other complaint is the fact that the wheels are plastic. They don’t have enough traction to climb even minor slopes, and I discovered that one of the wheels was already lopsided when we bought the trike.
This is an okay beginner trike as long as your child is small and wears a helmet, but it’s not great on bumpy or sloped surfaces or for larger kids. I’m glad I got it as cheaply as I did.
